Want to know more? Do you have...
-
A strong drive to learn and self-manage your responsibilities?
-
A passion for growing the student SPHR community here at PSU?
-
A flexible attitude to communicate proactively and professionally with others?
-
Well-developed time management skills- not only to meet deadlines, but the foresight to solve problems before they happen? Then running for a spot on next year’s board might be right for you!
Time commitment:
We’ll be sending out detailed information soon about each board member position and what it entails. But roughly, depending on your role, you might expect to spend up to 3-7 hours a week for your duties on the board. This varies a bit, and there will be slower times and busier times- think of it like working in a research lab. Beyond that, though, being a board member does take a certain level of self-motivation, both in time spend on duties, as well as an added layer of responsibility to your fellow board members, faculty, staff- and to your fellow students. Of course, this responsibility comes with many rewards:
-
The chance for you to distinguish yourself in this department
-
Strengthen your relationship to faculty and peers
-
Build connections that will carry beyond your time at PSU, and
-
Make your community in PSU’s NSSLHA’s chapter even stronger!
Common questions and answers:
“This sounds like too much right now”. That’s ok! We hope we’ll still see you at our next NSSLHA event! Or, maybe you have a fellow student in mind that you think would rock it? Please feel free to nominate them by sending an email to: nsslha@pdx.edu
“But what if I haven’t been a NSSLHA member for very long?” Not a NSSLHA member currently? Never served on a student board before? That’s okay! Most board members are new to NSSLHA or board experience. We’ll train you- and we promise, it will even be fun!
