October Update

We began the year with a departmental welcome of new and returning students as we transitioned to in-person learning. This gathering was a chance to showcase our faculty and student groups and build community after nearly two years spent in our virtual bubbles.

The new NSSLHA Board followed up with a low-key social gathering over Zoom. Several board members hosted an informal meetup to answer questions about the department, NSSLHA, and the membership process. We are grateful for the opportunity to form connections with each other as we navigate the return to a brick-and-mortar university setting.

Of course, we also participated in Advocacy Day. Half of the board members happen to be in the same Hearing Sciences class this term, so we had the perfect photo opp.

Upcoming features include a discussion about gender-affirming voice and communication with Dr. Jeff Conn as part of our Faculty Food for Thought series. Additionally, FUNetic Fridays and Multilingual Phonetics Club will be on our regular roster of events.

Have a spooktacular and safe Halloween weekend!
